Authors Loving Google Panda Changes

penguin and panda are good for authors
Authors are benefiting from Google Panda and Google Penguin updates.

I was asked about SEO for authors and what strategy to use. Sharing my thoughts on Google Panda here:

“Do press releases have SEO value after Google Panda?”

Anything “for SEO purposes” that you did 3 months ago needs to be retested unless you know you are getting results today.

Panda is NOT a one time change. Google has been opening telling us that both Penguin and Panda are designed to find patterns created by SEO and that there will be changes every month or so from now on. It’s not the end of optimizing, but “SEO” as it’s been done for the past 15 years is a profession like carburetor repair.

Real press releases that get media attention and placement in Google News and authority sites is not “SEO” but wonderful for business. Getting an interview in on an industry site or guest blog post on a high authority blog is better, read more, and a permanent high authority site.

Optimizing for what Google wants is great. Tricking Google is akin to matching your resources up against and army of Phd engineers with billions of dollars of computer power.

If you think you’ve found a new trick, remember, Google knows we’re having this conversation and will adjust to give searchers the best content.

When times get tough. Make great art.

Easy Way to Learn Internet Marketing Without Investing a Fortune

My friend Ross Goldberg put on Internet Marketing seminars.

I’ve spoke at Ross’s events before, and seen how he delivers three action packed days of training.

Many of my readers have been to the Master’s Seminars, but others have said that the time away from home and expense of traveling makes it difficult to attend.

So you’ll be glad to know that Ross has a new way to experience this exclusive traing for under $10

Read about the virtual seminar deal and grab a seat before Ross sell this out.

I’ll be speaking on what it take to get your own book and online social marketing program as part of the program.

The $1 Offer. Is it Too Good To Be True?

I’ve been profiling the new deal and promotion of millionaire author Matt Back and recommending you give $1 to Habitats For Humanity while receiving access to all the materials of Matt’s $5500.00 course on Internet Lead Generation and Marketing.

Naturally, the question comes up.. Is this too good to be true?  Why would someone give away a course that was selling well?

Has Matt really lost his mind?

The offer page here has a 57 second video that explains Matt’s motivation. But is that all?

I think anyone can guess that a 30 year old entrepreneur likely has plans beyond this. Read his page, and you will see that he still has a monthly newsletter and other products. In fact, he throws in a monthly complimentary subscription, knowing that most people who get it will want to continue to receive the cutting edge marketing and promotion strategies he shares.

Successful authors know that any income from the first book or information product that you buy is only a small part of running a successful business based on your book. We know that people like free samples and pack as much powerful information as we can into those samples.. knowing that it’s an powerful introduction to who they are and what they do.

What about you?

Do you have a business model where know the real lifetime value of each new reader?

Calculating the average life time value of readers using this simple equation. Take the total sales from a group of readers, with your best estimate for the time they will keep purchasing if you take good care of them. Then divide that number by the number of books sold (or readers added to a subscription list).

When you know the lifetime value, you can do some very interesting promotions. You can likely afford to pay more than your competition for advertising, you can add bonuses with real value and increase customer service.. knowing that when you take better care of new readers, they will be even more likely to stick around and buy again.

Best of all, no matter how obvious this common sense advice sounds, MOST authors and businesses don’t know their lifetime value numbers. They are left to guess on what they should spend, get scared about marketing costs, and cut corners on customer service and become easy to beat.

I’ve watched Matt Bacak’s customer service over the years. I have seen him buy $50 steak dinners for 50 strangers at a conference (Hs sales at that conference were through the roof). I’ve been to his office and seen the elaborate fulfillment and customer service systems he’s set up. Last month, I joined 132 of Matt’s happy client for a bonus refreshers course. Sitting at dinner with them (Matt’s treat of course) I heard story after story of their successes.

I’d imagine that there are nay sayers who think that all marketers are trying to pull something, but I’d rather look at successful models and find role models that can help you build your own information empire around your book. Whenever I watch Matt use the same principles that I teach every day, I learn something new because he’s a master of implementing simple marketing strategies that can grow your business rapidly.

So please, go take a look at Matt’s promotion. Spend a buck and see all the details behind the curtain. If you decide you don’t totally love the newsletter, I can guarantee you that you can drop it and never spend another dime.

My bet is that you will see at least several ideas that will turn into profits.

My guess is that you will be like me.

What do you think? Take a look at the promoiton now and post a comment.

The Secret to Selling Books Online

Selling books online is faster, easier and more profitable than traditional book store sales, yet most authors are missing out on most of these sales because they haven’t learned the secret to online book promotion.

I am going to tell you the secret, and give you a quick action plan to start using the secret right now.

The secret is simple. It comes from my marketing mantra “Find out what they want and get it for them.” In online book marketing, you know where the market is. Your readers are on the Internet, in social networking groups, web sites, blogs and media sites. They want to find meaningful discussions on topic that interest them.

You have to be there to be seen.

That the secret — To sell more books online, you and your book have to BE ONLINE.

I said it was simple.

Now, ask yourself.. have you put off:

  1. Building an online mail list
  2. Writing a blog about your topic.
  3. Making comments on other blogs
  4. Creating a profile on social network sites
  5. Tracking your online reputation.

I know the answers for most of us.. “I’m going to get to that when…” No more excuses. Let do something today.

Today’s reader starts by reading about you on the Internet. If they know you, they may be searching for you on Amazon.com, but more likely, they search for word or phrases that they are interested in.

So let’s find out where you are.. right now. Open a browser search and type in the key words or subject of your book. Look at the top page or two of results.

You and your book should be at the top of this list. Let’s talk about what best seller authors do to get to the top and stay there.

While you have the list in front of you, take a look at what does come up. I’ll be there are other books, blogs and videos. Find one that is interesting and see if they have a community, comment section or area to join. Get on the list, post a comment and find a way to participate.

Don’t SPAM the site. Add value to the discussion and put one link back to you and your book website. This is not a place for a promotional message.

There are millions of blog sites out there. Do a search by adding the word “blog” and you’ll see plenty of places to join a discussion. All these writers and readers are interested in YOUR topic.

Get involved in the conversations that are already happening online.

There are forums, social networking sites, photo sharing sites, video sites, podcasts and more.

The secret to this is to get started. Then make it a habit to spend a few minutes each day (or a few times a week) to check in with sites where your potential readers hang out.

You are already online surfing the web, checking email. You are reading a blog right now. The next step is to network online and build relationships that will promote you and your book.

Does it work?

Timothy Ferriss, author of the New York Times Bestseller “The Four Hour Work Week” told me that networking with blogs and bloggers was a primary marketing tool for his rise to the top.

High tech “social marketing” authors are turning out books in this new field. Many are instant best sellers because they have a following they have build up on their blogs. In the tech world, online relationships and networking are everywhere. If you don’t have a high tech topic, you are at an advantage.. you still can be at the start of this revolution.

Don’t just “go online” .. today you have to “be online”

By now, you’ve left at least one comment on a relevant blog. (if not, what are you waiting for?) Post another comment here and tell me what you think of this article. As long as it’s relevant to the topic, it’s okay to add a link out to your own book site.
