Lord of the rings is very highly ranked, where is Robinson Crosoe and Peace and war? Expected them to be ways better. But good list!

I bought LOTR when everyone else was doing it in college, but that right at the point I found there were so many things I didn’t know about and some personal development books that taught me I have a choice. So never got around to reading the fantasy stuff, but my gut feeling has been that they aren’t on par with some of the tomes missing from the list.

I scrolled the list quickly and noticed that I had not read the Rushdie novel. One of my personal disappointments with me is that I just don’t read novels anymore. Tough to block out the hours of quiet time. Probably should start knocking out a few…good for the soul.

The Rushdie novel would be one to read for reasons way beyond the enjoyment of fiction. It’s on my own “would be nice to read list”
I haven’t read fiction since college. I did listen to the “Idoru” by William Gibson due to all that Neuromancer did to articulate AI. I have to say that it’s one of the things that has shaped my thinking more than most.
I read Cory Docktrow’s “Down and Out in The Magic Kingdom” to get me thinking about a future abundance without the need for money.
A partner on a ARG (alternate reality games) project talked as if the world was based on “Ender’s Game” so I read the first of that series.
Other than that.. 40 years of non-fiction. I watch plenty of movies and study story construction in real time while watching the most inane TV show.
Writing this, I think like you, I may be better off with more fiction, but still not convinced that it need be the books a English teacher would choose or what’s popular. “American Idol” and “CNN” are popular

So happy to see Great Gatsby at #1. Just started reading 1984 last night. It’s been a couple of decades since I read it the initial time.
Atlas Shrugged at #306?
BTW: Someone slipped a bonus in there. There are now 624 books on the list.

Most of the books on the list have to be read before looking for a job! Shift happens during these days so that young people are looking for video content, so that movies based on the original novels are on high demand.

I know many who have not read the list and are gainfully employed. They’d be equally good at any time.

The company did not post anything about their equations

Interesting but I thought I would see a few self help books such as Think and Grow Rich. Great list though!

I think the people that did the list have a list of self-help books.

Looks like a good list. Thankfully, I had read several of them back in my high school / college days. I remember reading ‘The Sound and The Fury” and being lost in the mind of the idiot … quite frustrating, possibly had permanent effects. I have a much harder time reading good works these days as I’ve needed to keep up with tech changes and world news.
